Study on informal care and loneliness was presented in Tampere
At the end of October, the national conference on social policy was held in Tampere, Finland. GERDA researcher Sarah Åkerman presented preliminary results from a longitudinal study on loneliness among older informal caregivers based on GERDA. The preliminary results suggest that especially informal caregivers who have provided care for a long time are at risk of experiencing loneliness compared to, for example, new informal caregivers, former informal caregivers, or non-caregivers. However, loneliness was not particularly widespread among any of the studied groups. The study is being developed in collaboration with GERDA researchers Fredrica Nyqvist, Mikael Nygård, Birgitta Olofsson, and Fredrik Snellman. The final results of the study are expected to be published in the spring of 2024.
